Alzheimer Scotland – Action on Dementia
Dementia Friends Scotland 2017
Alzheimer Scotland believes nobody should face dementia alone. Its Dementia Friends programme aims to improve the public understanding of, and empathy for, dementia, so that people with dementia can instead feel supported, accepted, and welcomed in their communities.
Thanks to funding by the Foundation in 2016 Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Friends Scotland programme has recruited 6,925 new Dementia Friends to date. In 2017 the funding will enable them to develop a model for scaling up the roll out through strategic partnerships with education authorities. Funding will also help to meet promotional costs.
They will also continue mobilizing more people to significantly increase the number of Dementia Friends in Scotland - specifically online Dementia Friends. Their aim is to recruit 15,000 new Dementia Friends in 2017 and to deliver 300 sessions.
