What you’ll be doing
We’re looking for HV Electrical Fitters to work in our substations and wider HV Network working on Plant that covers voltages from 132Kv AC to 110v DC. You could be helping to connect new innovative Plant to our Network, installing monitoring and performance enhancing equipment to our existing fleet or responding to fault repairs quickly to restore constrained generation in an agile working environment. You will also be involved in delivering critical preventative maintenance to increase efficiency and minimise generation losses. Either way, you’ll be playing a key role in the fight against climate change.
Blending academic and technical skills tuition with work-based learning, this programme will provide training on a variety of assets, from the latest technology to traditional kit, providing you with a varied and interesting career. You’ll have the opportunity to focus on a trade and become an experienced and qualified HV Electrical Fitter working as part of a highly trained and focussed team.
Health and Safety is our number one priority; from day one you’ll be taught the fundamentals enabling you to keep yourself and your colleagues safe. You’ll be introduced to your chosen trade, all within the safety of our first-class training centres. During your training, you’ll develop your technical knowledge and hands-on skills. Within your first year, you’ll be out with our SP Renewables Operations & Maintenance team being, mentored by our experienced people.
Most of our windfarms aren’t accessible by public transport, so you must have a driving licence to get to and around the site and be willing to travel to remote locations for on the job training across the UK.

What you’ll bring
If you live in Scotland, you’ll have or expect to achieve, three National 5s in English, Maths and a STEM-related subject (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) or equivalent qualifications.
If you live in England or Wales, you’ll have or expect to achieve, three GCSEs at grades A-C / 4-9 in English, Maths and a STEM related subject (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) or equivalent qualifications. Alternatively, we’ll consider functional skills at level 2 in English and Maths.
As part of your role, you may be working on our turbines, which can reach heights of up to 90 meters, so it is essential that you are comfortable operating at such heights. Additionally, please note that most of our windfarms are not easily accessible by public transport therefore, having a driving license and use of a vehicle is a requirement in order to travel to for your training and to operational sites. Furthermore, it is important that you are open to traveling, both for offsite academic training and onsite training, to ensure your continuous development throughout the programme. It is preferrable that you live within 1 hours drive of our hub sites.
