The text below is the transcript from the Green Recovery Investment video.
As lockdown restrictions in the UK are relaxed, we find ourselves at a pivotal point in our history.
There is an opportunity to build a more robust economy, a fairer society and a more sustainable world.
We believe the best way to get the economy moving again is to bring forward green investments that tackle the other great crisis of our time: climate change.
By taking the right approach now, the UK can unlock significant economic benefits on its path to Net Zero.
It’s an approach that will bring us closer to a clean electric future, transform how we generate and distribute electricity and influence the way we work, travel and run our homes and businesses. Our energy networks are at the heart of this transition.
So we’ve been working with Ofgem and the Energy Networks Association to unlock over £60m of investment to create new electrical capacity in the areas it’s needed most. This will enable the connection of more low carbon technologies like electric vehicle charging points and heating in our homes and communities.
This accelerated investment will support a dynamic green recovery, a recovery that tackles climate change, creates jobs and leaves no-one behind – creating a better future, quicker, for all.
