The ScottishPower Pipe Band was celebrating after achieving third place at this year’s World Championships, their highest ranking position since the band began competing at the event.
They were beaten by Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band and Simon Fraser University Pipe Band following a day of fierce competition but were overjoyed to have ranked as the top Scottish pipe band on the day, the first time that the band has been ranked top Scottish band in the world.
Chris Armstrong, Pipe Major for the ScottishPower Pipe Band, said: “The whole band has put in a tremendous amount of hard work and effort over the past couple of months and we are thrilled with our result at the Worlds.
“Coming third is a fantastic achievement and every single member of the band should be pleased with their performance. We’re now looking to the future and hope that we can build on this success next year.”
The ScottishPower Pipe Band went into the World Championships on the back of the success from their inaugural Energy Concert. The band put on an excellent performance at the Royal Concert Hall during Piping Week accompanied by some talented musicians, including Chris Stout, one of Scotland’s finest folk music performers.
The Pipe Band also used the event as an opportunity to raise funds for Erskine to help them provide nursing and medical care for members of our Armed Forces. So far the band has raised over £500 and money is still being donated to support this worthwhile charity.
Ann Loughrey, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for ScottishPower, said: “We are extremely proud of the ScottishPower Pipe Band and their success at this year’s World Championships.
“They are an incredibly talented group of individuals who have had a great season so far and we continue to wish them every success.”
