Ann Loughrey, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at ScottishPower has received a prestigious accolade from Business in the Community for her dedication to work with the community.
The Game Changers award recognises inspirational individuals working behind the scenes to advance the responsible business movement.
Ann is Chair of the ScottishPower CSR Steering Committee and represents the company at a group level on the Iberdrola Reputation Committee. She is also the UK representative for the Fundación Iberdrola, which is responsible for carrying out the group’s social activities in the areas of Sustainable Energy, Art & Culture, Training & Research and Cooperation & Solidarity.
In 2005, Ann was instrumental in establishing the ScottishPower Energy People Trust to help end fuel poverty in Britain, and is both Trustee and Company Secretary. Since its launch the trust has awarded £11.2 million to 231 community projects, helping over 1.5 million people in over 1.3 million households through community projects designed to reduce fuel poverty across Britain.
Ann has also played a prominent role in fuel poverty and energy efficiency campaigns for more than 20 years. She was Director of Energy Action Scotland for 12 years and previously Commercial Manager at Heatwise Dumbarton, before joining ScottishPower in 2005 as Head of External Business and Community Relations.
BITC’s awards have historically focused on celebrating the achievements of the companies at the forefront of responsible business. However, in order to recognise the crucial role that individuals from business have played, the charity has launched a one-off Game Changers award to mark its 30-year anniversary.
BITC’s Game Changers were announced at the BITC AGM on 4 December 2012 in London.
Keith Anderson, Chief Corporate Officer at ScottishPower said: “We are absolutely delighted for Ann and would like to congratulate her on this fantastic achievement. She has dedicated her career to making a real impact in the community and there could not be a more deserving person of this award.
“At ScottishPower we are committed to conducting our business responsibly and making a positive contribution to society. This ethos lies at the heart of all of our activities and Ann is a fantastic inspiration to the entire team, showing that hard work can have a big impact on peoples’ lives.”
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive at Business in the Community said:
“We are delighted to be able to recognise some of the brightest stars in corporate responsibility through our Game Changers award. As a campaigning membership organisation we are dependent on individuals from business to help us drive the agenda. Without the energy and passion of Game Changers like Ann I doubt very much if the UK responsible business movement would be quite so mature. They truly deserve this recognition which I hope will act as an inspiration to others.”
