Staff at Whitelee Windfarm’s Control Centre are used to working day and night. Operational Controllers at the purpose-built facility monitor the status and performance of ScottishPower Renewables’ ever-increasing portfolio of wind farms 24 hours per day, 365 days a year – and Christmas is no different.
Over the festive period teams will be monitoring over 800 turbines, onshore and offshore, from Caithness to Cornwall, to ensure they’re operating efficiently and without faults.
Holly McBeth, Senior Operational Controller said: “We’re monitoring constantly – we need to look after all our windfarms across the country, watching for any faults on the turbines to ensure there’s as much power as possible available to the National Grid when needed.”
Whether that’s to keep hospitals on supply, keep the Christmas lights on or make sure there’s enough electricity to meet the demand of all those Christmas dinners cooking, it’s essential work and ScottishPower Renewables staff are proud to do it.
