Ahead of the next general election, we’re calling on the next government to give the green light for growth. CEO Keith Anderson sets out 10 steps to turbo charge green investment in the UK.
As we all know, an election is pending. So, today, we’ve set out 10 smart moves that a new Government could make to give a “green light for growth” and work together with businesses like ours to unlock investment, drive economic growth, and deliver clean energy security.
These are solid, deliverable, and impactful steps to help deliver decarbonisation and ensure society benefits from the opportunities a low carbon economy will bring.

Electrification is unstoppable. This we know. At ScottishPower we’ve outlined a £12bn investment plan to 2028 to electrify the economy. And we are going to deliver on it.
But the UK could unlock plenty more investment, jobs, supply chain benefits and positive community impact if it zones in on removing barriers in the way.

How do we speed up, to get that investment flowing? By streamlining process and making decisions quicker - positive or negative - and getting on with it.
How do we attract more supply chain investment to the UK? For example, earlier this year we launched our biggest ever tender for services, with £5.4bn of contracts up for grabs. How can the Government help more firms to scale up and invest so they stand to benefit?
And how do we do more to reduce emissions from domestic properties whilst keeping bills lower for longer for households and supporting the most vulnerable in society? By transforming homes through simplified energy efficiency schemes with heat pumps, solar and batteries needs to be seen as a vital national infrastructure priority to help tackle fuel poverty. Or by supporting projects like our first-of-its-kind ‘Warm Home Prescription’ trial, where we work with NHS authorities to identify low-income households and people with chronic health conditions who would benefit from warmer, healthier homes.
It is people that are at the heart of all of this. Their lives, their jobs, their futures, and their communities that stand to benefit from this transformation so I hope there will be plenty of debate and discussion on how we turn all of our ambitions into concrete action.
