Where you’ll be working

As a Distribution and Transmission Network Operator, ScottishPower keeps the electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire. One of only six Distribution Operators and one of three Transmission owners in the UK, our actions are crucial to the decarbonisation of the network. The energy landscape is changing fast as the way our customers and communities generate, consume, and interact with energy evolves. Our role is to decarbonise our network through technology and innovation and to support the UK’s journey to Net Zero through electrification. We need to maximise the efficiency of our network to optimise the transmission and distribution of electricity generated from renewables, reducing electricity losses, and allowing us to move away from fossil fuels.

With Transmission and Distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it’s vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour.

You’ll find more information about ScottishPower, including details of our current projects, on our website

What you’ll be doing

With distribution networks originally designed for predictable and stable demand, it is now imperative that we upgrade our network to accommodate the extensive changes in electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour and you will be at the forefront of a transformative movement in the energy industry.

You will contribute to the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission networks.  Working closely with experienced engineers and technicians, you will have the opportunity to learn from their expertise and gain valuable hands-on experience in the field. Your problem-solving and analytical skills, refined through your academic journey, will be vital in addressing the complex challenges that arise in this dynamic field.

Furthermore, health and safety are of utmost importance in our operations, making attention to detail essential whether you are involved in operating or designing our network.

What’s in it for you

You’ll receive many benefits and advantages such as career growth and development. This role provides you with a solid foundation for a successful career in the energy sector. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects and gain valuable experience whilst contributing to the development of critical national infrastructure.

This hands-on experience will allow you to develop a strong skill set and open doors to exciting career opportunities. There’s never a dull moment - with a wide variety of tasks that will keep you busy.
