Commenting on BERR Secretary of State John Hutton’s speech at the Future of Utilities Conference Jose Luis del Valle, ScottishPower’s Chief Executive, said:

“ScottishPower welcomes the government’s ongoing support for the future of coal generation particularly through the CCS competition. However existing plant has a key role in maintaining the security of supply as newer options are rolled out. That is why we have committed €900m over the next 3 years to improving the efficiency of our existing traditional generation plant. 

“Our feasibility study into the possible super critical upgrade of Cockenzie and Longannet power plants is ongoing  -  however in the meantime ScottishPower is considering its options regarding an entry to the government’s carbon capture and storage competition”.
