ScottishPower to Sponsor Wigtown Book Festival

08/07/2013

ScottishPower is to support a literary celebration in Scotland’s National Book Town as the energy company announced it will become a major sponsor of the Wigtown Book Festival which takes place in the Machars area of Dumfries and Galloway on 27 September - 6 October 2013.

Now entering its 15th year, Wigtown Book Festival boasts a vibrant calendar of activities for families and book lovers including theatre, music, workshops and exhibitions with some of Britain’s most celebrated writers - all held amongst the town’s many independent book shops.

ScottishPower will sponsor the event’s main marquee which seats over 300 people and will also engage with the local community through a range of activities that encourage people of all ages to share their passion for reading and writing.

Ann Loughrey, Head of CSR at ScottishPower, said: “ScottishPower is very much committed to the local community in Wigtown and we hope that our support of the Book Festival enables the organisers to put on another terrific festival.

“We’re also hugely excited about the range of new initiatives that we will be announcing soon that aim to engage local people of all ages to explore their passion for literacy and even some of their hidden talents.”

Adrian Turpin, Wigtown Book Festival Director, said: “We’re thrilled that ScottishPower is supporting the Wigtown Book Festival. The quality and diverse range of activities continues to grow year-on-year and this is only achievable with the support of our valued sponsors and partners.”
