ScottishPower expects all homes affected by Tuesday’s storm to be reconnected today. If a reconnection estimate for a property is expected to be later this evening, the company will make every attempt to contact customers to offer alternative accommodation for tonight. If there are any isolated cases where power can’t be restored from the mains supply, the company will offer to connect a generator to the property or offer alternative accommodation if preferred.
ScottishPower has again had 850 engineers working to repair storm damage today - the most engineers ever deployed in the ScottishPower area.
Tuesday’s gales caused the most damage to the network in Central Scotland in 13 years, with the ScottishPower overhead network experiencing more faults in a single day than it would normally receive in three months. Hundreds of electricity poles have been broken and over a thousand trees and other items of debris being removed from the network.
Once all customers are reconnected, ScottishPower will identify customers that are entitled to compensation. Those customers who have been without power continuously for 48 hours following a storm will be entitled to compensation under the energy regulator Ofgem’s guidelines. The company will contact these customers after supplies have been restored to advise them on how to make a claim, and are currently putting these processes in place.
