ScottishPower has secured a prestigious accolade in the Scotland plc Awards.
The company triumphed in the ‘Social Investment in Scotland’ category* which recognises the social investment contribution made by all companies with a major presence in Scotland.
The energy giant contributed £3.4 million in community support activity in 2010 of which £2.4 million was contributed to registered charitable organisations.
Ann Loughrey, Head of CSR at ScottishPower, said: “We are delighted to win this award which recognises our social investment. Supporting and building the trust of local communities has been part of our core values for many years. The organisation has a long track record of supporting communities not only financially, but also by sharing its resources and the transfer of skills of its employees.”
Iberdrola is the parent company of ScottishPower and the Fundación Iberdrola is responsible for coordinating, driving and promoting the social and environmental activities of the Iberdrola Group. ScottishPower’s community investment activity is aligned to the Fundación’s key themes: Energy Sustainability, Art & Culture and Development, Cooperation and Solidarity.
Ann continued: “ScottishPower’s aim is simple – it looks to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with its community that will help provide a sustainable society. We are focused on increasing awareness of the communities we work in and developing a greater understanding of the positive impact our investment can have.”
As part of their work in the community ScottishPower has established and provide funding to two independent Trusts.
The ScottishPower Green Energy Trust, established 11 years ago, supports small scale community based environmental and educational renewable energy projects, and is funded by ScottishPower's Green Energy Fund customers who donate their annual dual fuel discount.
During 2010 The Scottish Power Green Energy Trust gave over £128,000 to 9 community projects bringing its total donations to £1.3 million to 128 community based environmental and educational renewable energy projects.
The ScottishPower Energy People Trust was established in 2005 to help alleviate fuel poverty in Britain.
The ScottishPower Energy People Trust gave £1.7 million to 29 projects supporting over 690,000 people in 637,820 households in 2010.
