ScottishPower Price Cuts Take Effect

15/06/2007

ScottishPower price reductions in gas and electricity became effective today with cuts of 16.5% in gas and 6% in electricity, taking the typical direct debit bill down £75 to £836 per year.

These reductions take ScottishPower’s standard duel fuel package below that of British Gas– a market advantage ScottishPower has enjoyed for almost all of the last five years*.

The price reduction comes as the company announced that thousands of customers have taken the ScottishPower Savings Challenge in the last month. Over 80% of ScottishPower customers could pay less by making simple changes to their energy account – for example  switching to Direct Debit could save up to £125 with managing accounts online saving up to a further £64.

The new price structure also means that ScottishPower is now the only UK supplier to support its most vulnerable customers with prepayment rates for both Gas and Electricity that are cheaper than standard quarterly payments rates.

Willie MacDiarmid, ScottishPower’s Director of Energy Retail, said: “With the reductions taking effect today, we’re even further committed to ensuring our customers receive value for money and  the best value ScottishPower deal for them- that’s why we have created the Savings Challenge.”

* Comparison based on ScottishPower being cheaper than British Scottish Gas for 57 of the 60 months to 15th June 2007 for the average domestic dual fuel customer paying monthly by Direct Debit who uses 20,500kWh of mains gas and 3,300kWh of Standard rate electricity annually.  Excludes IGT domestic gas customers, standard quarterly credit payers and prepayment customers.  ALL PRICES CORRECT AS AT 15TH JUNE 2007 AND INCLUDE VAT AT A RATE OF 5%.
