ScottishPower Completes £7m Windfarm Connection

09/03/2009

  • New Substation Boosts Network in Dunbar

ScottishPower Energy Networks has recently completed a £7m project to connect the 48MW Aikengall Windfarm to the electricity network, and at the same time the installation of a new substation will help to strengthen the electricity network in the Dunbar area.

The work was carried out over 18 months and involved laying 18km of new cables. Electricity generated by the windfarm will now be fed in to the local electricity network via the new substation at Old Belton.

The new substation will also reinforce the local electricity network, which will help to enhance the security of supplies for homes and businesses in Dunbar and the surrounding areas.

Anthony Callan, project manager at ScottishPower, said: “Now that the project is complete there is a double benefit for the local area, as the renewable energy being produced by the windfarm is now being fed directly into the local grid and, to cope with this, we have installed new equipment which will strengthen the electricity network as a whole.

“The local community were very patient while work was being carried out, and we are very grateful for their co-operation.”
