Reinforced glass panelling has brought a new look to Cockenzie Power Station, as well as improving safety and efficiency.
Over the last 8 months the station has invested a six figure sum replacing more than 20 tons of reinforced glass plus support steelwork, with special opaque Filon panels covering an area of over 5000m2 - equivalent to 5 Olympic sized swimming pools.
Bill Kelly, Station Manager, said: “This has been an important investment as it will help minimise maintenance and improve natural light within the station. It will also reduce access to birds and problems associated with their subsequent mess.”
The total installation involved 4500 individual panes and was carried out by C&D Industrial Services (Scotland) Limited, who previously re-clad the east and west gables of the station’s boiler house.
